Atlona Technologies Releases new HDMI EDID Recorder-Writer with Serial Control tool, the AT-HDSync

The analog to digital transition in the AV world is almost complete, but still plagued by sync issues. As a solution based manufacturer of Audio Video accessories, Atlona Technologies strives to eliminate the issues end users and installers face, no matter the application. When desired HD sources are unable able to recognize displays, and vice versa, this inability to display the image properly if at all, can make the difference between a successful install, or having margin eaten away from return visits. Atlona has officially released a guaranteed fix to sync issues with the new HDSync. This companion to their previous DVI EDID Recorder (AT-DVISync) can emulate the EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) information. It can record EDID/DDC (Display Data Channel) information of any desired HD display, and place that recorded information between the source and the conjoint component (ie: switcher, extender, processor, etc…). Essentially, this unit will trick the source into thinking that it is connected to the display the entire time.

Atlona’s HDSync stores the EDID information and recalls a default EDID setting in non-volatile memory that supports HDCP handshaking. AT-HDSync allows your HDMI source to boot directly from AT-HDSync, so users can detach the monitor from the HDMI connection at any time while installing. In addition, the HDSync can read and store the EDID of your HDMI display and give users the ability to modify the EDID and upload the modified EDID to displays.

Seeking a way to better serve their primary markets, Atlona Technologies announces today the separation of their products into three product categories; Atlona CE (Consumer Electronics), Atlona Si (System Integrator), and Atlona Signature (Professional, Commercial). Atlona Technologies officially releases two new SDI Converters for the Broadcasting Community, the AT-SDI220 and AT-SDI230

Atlona Technologies, solutions based manufacturer of Audio Video accessories, has just announced the release of their newest SDI Converters for the Broadcast and Security market. These new SDI converters are the AT-SDI220 and the AT-SDI230. The AT-SDI220 is an analog video to SDI converter with audio. The AT-SDI230 is designed for those looking to go the opposite direction, acting as a SDI to Analog video converter with audio.

Atlona’s AT-SDI220 is designed to convert 1 x component analog (3 x BNC input), S-video (2 x BNC input), and 1 x composite video (1 x BNC input), to up to two SDI outputs. In addition, this unit supports resolutions of 525i at 30hrz and 635i at 25hrz. An essential benefit of the AT-SDI220 is the ability to convert an output from a video camera or security camera, and feed it directly into the desired SDI capture device.

Atlona Technologies, solutions based manufacturer of Audio Video connectivity products, has announced the release of their newest signal generator designed to test Audio Video systems using SD-SDI, HDSDI, or 3GSDI formats. The AT-3GSDI500 is an advanced SDI pattern generator from their previous AT-HDSDI500, now with multi-format (3G/HD/SD) and multi-pattern support. Atlona has spared no expense with the AT-3GSDI500 signal generator; packed with a variety of features provided such as still and motion video test patterns, and audio (SMPTE-291M), to name a few. When Apple introduced the 24" Cinema Display, it did not include the very common DVI input, and instead replaced it with Mini DisplayPort. This apparently inexplicable decision caused much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the Macintosh community, as many potential purchasers for Cinema Displays don't have Mini DisplayPort-capable computers.

If you're not up to speed on Mini DisplayPort, Macworld has a great primer on Mini DisplayPort.

As of this writing (3/26/2010) all Macintoshes have Mini DisplayPort-out monitor connectors. But if your Mac is older than late-2008, it does not have a Mini DisplayPort output, and so can't drive the new Cinema Displays.

Atlona Launches 2x4 HDMI 1.3 Distribution Amplifier

Atlona Technologies has released an AV switcher that uses two HDMI sources and mirrors one of those sources on up to four HD displays.
Created by Lenexpo in 2003, Atlona Technologies currently manufactures a line of AV products ranging from AV switches to plenum cables to projector mounts. The AV switcher, dubbed the AT-HD-V214, leverages an HDMI 1.3 platform to transfer computer resolutions up to WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) and HDTV resolutions up to 1080i/p. High definition audio is supported by the switcher in the form of Dolby Digital TrueHD (up to 10.1 channels) and DTS-HD high definition audio codecs. Other features include data transfer rates up to 6.75 Gbps and the ability to control the switch via an RS-232 feed. The switcher currently retails for $499. Further information is available here.

Accessories as Necessities

Retail is a constantly changing environment. Brick and mortar stores have been watching the ever present migration of consumers as online retail carves out a larger market share. The economy has forced a need for end users to educate themselves on every purchase, making sure that they are getting as much as possible for their dollar. Digital formats are becoming more and more sophisticated, turning products into legacy devices in mere months. Consumers learn from their retail experience. They get in person comparisons of products and features, and advice from sales people who have that much more experience with AV than they do. For retailers, being in touch with industry changes has never been as important as it is today.

Accessories have always been a value add for those in the retail market, something to tag on to a sale of some large ticket item such as a HDTV. Now that the industry has reached a point where the HD foundation is solid, the only logical thing to do is build up. Consumers are holding on to last year’s big screen, but still want this year’s features. This is where accessories such as converters are starting to become more of a necessity than a value add. Typically, most retail location carry high margin accessories such as cables and mounts. These days our company is seeing much more interest from retail sales companies for solutions. They are looking for an answer to give customers hitting some of the walls that come with digital formats like getting their video signal from their laptop to their HDTV without having wires running across the floor.

Atlona Technologies has been stable throughout the winds of change that have swept over our economy, and have even experienced some growth due to their stance on being a solutions based connectivity provider. In the coming months Atlona will provide solutions for consumers wanting to take advantage of all the new features offered by the HDMI 1.4 as well as converters for Mini DisplayPort.
